GRL x Hello Kitty Tan Leopard Print Mascot

Leopard print on Hello Kitty should not work, and it completely does.

She is tanned — the wheat-brown fur GRL keeps coming back to — in a leopard romper with a matching bow sitting off to one side. GRL describes the look as slightly gyaru — the Japanese gal subculture it built its whole brand on — and that is exactly the register: this is the Hello Kitty who goes out, not the one on a lunchbox.

Look at the eyes. They are brown, not black — GRL singles this out as a deliberate choice, and it does soften her whole face. Small thing, but it is the kind of detail that separates a collab piece from a licensed one.
